E11

WS28xx - 12

Abstract: Imbedded WS28xx compatible LED driver with variable voltage.

Specs

This module implements a 12 channel WS2811 emulator with compatible bus timing. The number of LEDs can be configured (1-12) via the RS232 interface. The E11 may be cascaded with regular WS2811 (or compatible) chips.

Features,

  • Variable (auto detecting) LED count [0..12]
  • PCB designed for signal socket imbedding
  • 256 step PWM (300Hz) per LED
  • Variable LED voltage [2..5V] for global dimming
  • Drives common anode
  • Gamma correction (optional via firmware)
  • Connects to C30 or C19 via adapter
  • Fast firmware update via RS232 debug interface

Note 1: The hardware is identical to the C36 but running different software (ROM, Bootloader & Main).
Note 2: This module connects to the P18 adapter via a FFC cable.
Note 3: The E11 may also be used with other WS28xx compatible controllers such as MobaLedLib or BiDiB NeoControl.

Most LEDs are very bright when used at 5V. To limit the maximum brightness, it could make sense to lower the common voltage to e.g. 3.5V. In this case, the value for common must be 178.

Common[Volt] = 5[Volt] * {common} / 255

The common voltage scaler can also be used to adapt to the day/night operation of the system. Adequate LED intensity may be too bright if the system is operating in the dark.

The number of LEDs is detected automatically (n = number of detected LEDs which can be zero),

WS28xx bus: … {common} {led_1} {led_2} … {led_n} …

Example

The E11 connect to the WS28xx bus via the P18 adapter emulating a 12-channel WS2811 chip. The P18 adapter simply converts the FFC cable form factor to the standard 3-pin WS28xx bus cable. In addition, the adapter protects the integrated signal controller from voltage peaks.

Installing the embedded signal driver inside or near the signal mounting socket. The P18 adapter converts an FFC cable to a standard 3-pin WS28xx cable connection.
